Great Kids - Mama Said

Project Type: Brand Identity, Apparel Design

Great Kids is a brand born of a life time using this quip between a group of friends. A group of friends who at times were rather rough on the edges, carving out the space for each other to carry that energy of being a "Great Kid". The brand was made in an attempt to capture the energy used in this turn of phase my many friends would use to discribe each other. Mixing elements of clean placed typography stacked atop of grungy imagery captured in the city we've grown up in help lend a hand to making our brand stand out as something uniquely ourselves.

Brand Logo:

When designing our logo, an importance was placed on creating multiple variations that would work well across our desired platforms. Pulling aesthetic influence from our type with locally respected company "Market Basket" using a similar typeface, as well as a timeless smiley that could work on a number mediums like using our single smiley as a brand icon for social PFP's, to the three stack being used on items like business cards & shirts.

Photography:

After largely establishing our visual aesthetic through our branding explorations, the next step was to take our camera to the streets of downtown Lowell and capture imagery that best captured our view of the city we live in.

These photos focused on capturing the nearly 200 year old city city in the light that it's shined for us. Feeling often chaotic, well lived in but also beautiful and seasoned with historty from it's brick buildings to it's cobblestone streets.

Merch:

Once our branding and our visual aesthetics were locked down, the next progression was creating the line of clothing itself. This line was created with streetwear influences, bolsted by our inherant "city visuals". This was then coupled with our applied branding system, mising script and serif fonts to create a timeless visual. 

Social:

The final step in our process was to bring it all together in a presentation that could be easily digested for social media. Using catchy slogans and our applied design languages we leaned heavily into tounge and cheek to keep that playful feeling of the brand at the forefront.
